Transition from Teething to Toothbrushing

The transition from teething to toothbrushing is made easy by Preventive Dental’s

Toothcare Toothbrush Infant Toddler Training Kit.

The instructions are written right on the package, and are simple.

Three tools in one pack! Infant teether, transitional teether-toothbrush, and toddler toothbrush
Toddler using transitional toothbrush. Brushing teeth together creates healthy habits!

For a teething infant without any teeth yet, the dual-handled teething ring is the perfect shape for little fingers to grasp, and has nubby bumps for the infant to explore with his mouth. Once the first teeth erupt, usually the lower central incisors around 6 months of age, the parent can begin substituting the purely teething ring for the infant toothbrush. As baby holds the larger end, the parent can use the little bristles to gently brush the teeth. If baby gets more interested in chewing on the toothbrush than in having the teeth brushed, the parent switches back to the teething ring.

This process will likely go on for a few months, with the baby quite naturally exploring the toothbrush and trying to chew on it instead of having teeth brushed by it… hang in there parents, and keep swapping the teething ring out!

Once the child has back teeth (usually all 20 primary teeth are in erupted by age 2 years), the parent can again switch the teething toothbrush for the more regularly shaped toddler toothbrush in the kit.

We offer these at no cost to every parent of a little one!
