As a 17 year long member of the Georgia Dental Association, Dr Caughey attended at the GDA Annual Meeting in an enjoyable way; sharing community and learning with local colleagues.

This year Dr. Caughey was invited to speak to the audience on the relationship of bite splint designs and their effect on the cervical spine (neck) – this was the first talk of its kind at the GDA Annual meeting and elicited quite the interested response!

Understanding the relationship between the mouth and the neck is elusive to even the most interested clinician, but frankly most dentists are not aware that there even IS a relationship. At the GDA annual convention, Dr. Caughey reviewed different splint designs – from anterior deprogrammer to Gelb splints, and from upper palatal splints to lower flat plane bite splints – and showed the effect these different splints had on a study case.

Dr. Caughey has used the philosophy, that teaching at the post-graduate level is a calling rather than a choice. Well done Dr C!
