  1. Clenching – Our teeth are intended to make contact a total of 8 seconds out of every 24 hour period, during the actual impact of chewing food. Stress related clenching puts undue force on the teeth and can arrest the natural outward flow of fluid in the dentinal tubules – when we quit clenching, the fluid rushes in like a vacuum. Ouch!
  2. Excessive whitening products – The FDA now allows our home products to contain dental peroxide at the same strengths that we used to only be able to access professionally in the dental office . . . Too much can cause a drop in pH (increase in acid).
  3. Harsh tooth brushing techniques – scrub the enamel on your tub, not your teeth. A light circular touch with an extra soft bristled tooth brush is actually more effective at removing plaque than a quick scrub with a firmer brush.
